Summer Season

Looking back, we began the Season on Sunday 13th July at Bishop Eton Monastery gardens, opening the day’s Parish Celebrations with guest conductor Pete Smith (from our Bass Section).

Our next concert was at Botanic Gardens in Southport on Sunday 3rd August, where even the rain didn’t dampen our spirits as we were relocated to the Church next to the park.

Our final summer outing was a while in the making, as it was originally rained off on Monday 25th August and fortunately the organisers were able to reschedule for Sunday 21stSeptember.  The weather was kinder to us and it proved to be a lovely sunny day.  We had a great audience with some very positive comments.  We noted on our facebook page that an audience member Alan Cheseldine posted on our page with this comment:

“Excellent concert this afternoon…  Been to a few here and there this summer but this finished the summer with a great performance.  First time I have heard A B and it won’t be the last.”

At The Movie Success

Allerton Brass held their first Summer Concert last weekend at The Capstone Theatre in Shaw Street, Liverpool.  The Concert was in the film Spirit, featuring music from some of the Great Movies and Composers.  To add to the excitement, we presented some scenes from the films on the ‘Big Screen’ behind the band.

A great night was had by all, and some of the audience took the time to give us some great feedback:

“We would like to thank allerton brass for an absolutely wonderful evening we very much enjoyed the music with the  added film screen it was very well put together and we look forward to your next performance well done all allerton brass and all who helped and supported them.Good luck .”     Maria Kellett, Liverpool

“Really enjoyed the concert.  There was a great mix of music.  Nights In White Satin brought back some memories.”     Colette Nawrocki, Liverpool

“Brilliant Night. Hope you made lots of money.”   Andrew Lamb, Liverpool

St Annes Charity Concert

The band were invited to take part in the Asylum Link Merseyside Charity Concert which was held on 1st March 2014 at St Annes Church, Overbury Street, Liverpool 7

Paul Andrews, MD at Wingates Band kindly took up the baton for this event. The Asylum Link team made us very welcome and we had a great night. The band played alongside Liverpool Hope Voices of Hope; St Julies School, Mark Putney, L8 Sings, Hayli Kincade and the Oriel Singers. A great night was had by all.

A tremendous amount was raised for the charity for which we were delighted to be a part of.

For me in particular, it was nostalgic to return to St Anne’s Church, Liverpool ,  as it was my family’s parish and I was christened and made my first holy communion there. I was not disappointed, the church is still beautiful and a great venue for a concert. Watch out St Anne’s, we would like to return.

Business as usual

After a nice long Christmas break, the band reconvened rehearsals in Liverpool on Wednesday 5th February 2014.

Building from the Christmas period, we were aiming to start the new season with a good core of players; which is precisely what happened, which is fantastic news as every band needs a good core of players if they are to succeed.

We are also delighted to be able to secure the premises of Fisher More Hall at Bishop Eton Church in South Liverpool for rehearsals on Wednesday nights.

Our core players consist of the following:

Tony Jackson
Mike Seymour
Rachel Wharton
Liz Tweedle
Ryan Higgin
Jonathan Malits
Michael Jackson
Tommy Bonner
Adam Roberts
Janet Malits.

We have also had the help a few conductors for different rehearsals, both internally: Michael Jackson (Allerton Brass and Wingates Band) and Ryan Higgin (Allerton Brass and Wingates Band), and externally: Matthew Taylor (Fairey Band).

A Band is Born

On Saturday 7th December 2013 the band made it’s inaugaral performance at The Capstone Theatre at Hope University Campus on Shaw Street, Liverpool.

With the proceeds going towards The MS Society and The MS Trust, the concert was a great success, bringing together the newly formed band and the excellent Bishop Eton School Choir. Pictures from the concert will follow shortly on the Gallery page.

On Monday 23rd December 2013, a small group of the band performed at Bishop Eton Church as part of the Christmas Service. The following document comes from the ‘BE Alive’ write up in January.
