A Night at the Oscars 2019

Last Saturday we had and Oscar-themed Autumn Band Social incorporating our inaugural annual awards ceremony.

Band Members, Friends and guests entered into the spirit of things and many “dressed to impress” but all had a great evening enjoying a few drinks, some wonderful food (courtesy of the wonderful Fund Raising Committee), a Quiz and of course our Prize Presentation.

Although there were many nominations for the various Awards, the main winners on the night were recognised for their amazing commitment and contribution to the Band in terms of performance, attitude, example and all the unseen effort that goes on behind the scenes.  So the 2019 Role of Honour is:

Bandsperson of the Year – Tony Jackson
Most Improved Player – Ruth Farrelly
Unsung Hero – Teresa Jackson
Musical Director’s Award – Mike Jackson
Allerton Brass Award to the Player of the Year – Doug Elkin

There were also some slightly less serious awards presented.  Again there were too many nominees to mention, but the awards went to: Best Singer (Hannah Elkin), Chris Dewhurst who scooped an amazing 3 awards – Most Likely to play his part an octave lower than written (and think the MD hasn’t noticed!), Most Inappropriate Comment and the funniest moment went to Lynsey.

Summer Concerts 2019

The band have had a number of concerts over the summer, in Botanic Gardens Southport; Farnworth Widnes; Bishop Eton Parish Celebrations and with out friends at the Merseyside Thursday Club, before our final performance of the period at Vale Park New Brighton.

On Sunday 23rd June, we managed to play 2/3rds of our concert at Botanic Gardens before the rain spoilt our fun, but the audience were having a great time until then!

On Saturday 29th June, we played in the glorious heat for the Farnworth Primary School for their Summer Fair.  Afterwards we were allowed to cool down before giving a short performance.

The following day we were back in action playing at the Bishop Eton Church Parish Celebrations to start off the day!

On Thursday 4th July we celebrated Independence Day with our friends at Merseyside Thursday Club, we had great fun and some of the members of the club joined in with a Sing-Song towards the end of the night.

We have one final performance this period at Vale Park New Brighton on Sunday 28th July, 2:30pm.  We would love to see you there!

Whit Friday 2019

On Friday 14th June the band took part in the annual Whit Friday Marches event.

We only managed to make 5 contests but we had a great time and even managed to come away with 1st place prizes in the 2nd Section at 3 venues!

Galaxies

On Saturday 4th May the band delighted the audience at The Capstone Theatre with our programme Galaxies.  Along with the great display running behind the band, the band were in fine form and look forward to our next performances at the Anglican Cathedral and the Annual Whit Friday Marches.
