We are delighted to Announce the Appointment of a new 2nd Euphonium player, Ruth Farrelly!

Ruth moved to Liverpool in 1998 to study medicine and liked the place so much she stayed!  Originally from Birmingham, she is now an honorary Scouser; living here longer than back home, and her children are certainly Scousers!

Ruth originally started on Trombone, however as she couldn’t reach 6th Position, she soon moved onto Euphonium.  She played in the Birmingham School Brass Band and Wind Orchestra, doing Music at A Level, and joined the Liverpool University Wind Band after commencing her studies.

After Graduating, one thing led to another and the Euphonium didn’t see much light for a good few years.  Since then, Ruth has completed her Post Graduate Training and is now a Local GP at a lovely small practice in Woolton.  Thankfully for the Euphonium (and for the Band) fate intervened as we played a concert with her Children’s school and Ruth quickly got in touch!  She is really pleased to be playing again as it’s like finding a little bit of your soul that you thought was lost.

Unfortunately we didn’t find Ruth in time for her to be eligible to play at The North West Area at the end of the month, however she will hopefully be in action at our next Capstone Theatre Concert, ‘Around the World in 80 minutes’ on Saturday 12th May.

The Band is delighted to announce that we came 2nd in 3rd Section on Sunday at the Brass @ The Guild contest in Preston! Congratulations to all the victors of the day.

Not only did we come 2nd, but we managed to sneak in a Best Basses prize in the section as well!

We will now be preparing for the North West Area Contest in Blackpool at the end of February.

2017 has been another incredible year for the Band. We started the year with a new Musical Director and made our first ever appearance at the NW Regional Brass Band Championships in Blackpool in February. We came 2^nd and secured not only promotion from 4^th Section to 3^rd, but also a place to represent the North West at the National Brass Band Championship Finals in Cheltenham in September where, despite a somewhat disappointing result (we came 10^th out of 20), the Band had a fantastic weekend. Having now heard the recordings of our performance we can honestly can say we couldn’t have asked for anymore. The whole process of preparation, rehearsal and performance was a fantastic journey for the Band, one which under the guidance of our inspirational MD Adam Taylor, we look forward to continuing.

Aside from this we made our annual trip to Saddleworth and Tameside on Whit Friday where we competed in the world famous Whit Friday March Contests. An early start meant we were able to compete at 6 villages in all and we were delighted to come away with 6 first prizes!

Away from competition we have performed a Rock Concert, joined in with the Beatles celebrations, undertaken a sponsored play for a full 24 hours, performed summer concerts in Vale Park, New Brighton and Botanic Gardens, Southport, had our first Band Wedding and much, much more.

We are also delighted to have started to build a relationship with Walton Salvation Army Band with whom we were able to make a joint Harvest Festival celebration performance. We look forward to more collaborations with them in the future.

As the year drew to a close, we enjoyed a busy Festive Season of Concerts which commenced with our Christmas Fantasia performance at the Capstone Theatre where we were once again delighted to be joined on stage by Ali White and the wonderful children of the Sudley Junior School Choir.

We also performed at both of Simon Rimmer’s (celebrity chef and star of Strictly Come Dancing) local Restaurants – The Elephant, Woolton and The Viking, West Kirby; West Derby Golf Club; Hunts Cross Community Garden; The House, Woolton; Liverpool One; and we were honoured to take part in two concerts with Sing Me Merseyside and the wonderful Mezzo Soprano Danielle Thomas in the Concert Room at St George’s Hall.

2018 promises to be a busy year as well. There’ll be more Contests – this time as a 3^rd Section Band. And plenty of concerts too including our Spring performance here at Capstone Around The World In 80 Minutes. And we are also looking forward to working with world renowned Composer/Arranger Bill Connor.

The New Year also sees the official launch of our supporters group Friends of Allerton Brass which we hope will be a great success – early signs are good and thanks to all those who signed up over the Christmas period.

At our Christmas Fantasia concert a couple of weeks ago we announced the launch of our Supporters’ Club, the Friends of Allerton Brass.

Saturday 2^nd December saw us get our Christmas Season off to a flying start with our Christmas Fantasia performance at our favourite Capstone Theatre. 

Supported by Ali White and the wonderful choir of Sudley Junior School (who were absolutely fabulous again this year) we performed a varied programme of music much of which had been arranged by our MD Adam Taylor and our Principal Euphonium Mike Jackson.

Judging by their reaction and comments the near capacity audience, our largest ever at Capstone, thoroughly enjoyed the evening.  The Band and the Choir too had a fantastic time and really enjoyed performing together. 

Despite only putting them together a couple of hours before the performance, our joint items went off really well too and the children were so disciplined as Sergeant Major Adam Taylor marched them off stage for the interval.

A huge vote of thanks to everyone who supported us on the night, to Ali White and Sudley Junior School Choir and of course to all the staff at Capstone who are so great to work with and provide so much help and support.
